Artists Statement:

“Fandango is a bold and vibrant shade of magenta and purple…that exudes energy, creativity and sophistication…Fandango, the colour, symbolizes passion, individuality and artistic expression.”

It happens that “Fandango” turns out to be The Perfect Title for this, my first painting in weeks. I had been away from my studio on a spiritual retreat and I definitely felt a burst of creativity when I got back to my studio and stood in front of a clean white canvas. I started off slowly, bridling this brand-new energy and watched the paint run freely in the pristine white. I let loose as more and more colours appeared on the canvas. It took on a swirling motif which I hadn’t seen before.  So I worked with that idea using all sorts of colours. AND I had a new colour, Benzi Burnt Orange, a reddish brown, from Kroma artists acrylics, to play with which offset beautifully the deep greens, turquoises and oddly the magentas too!
I was painting very ‘free and easy’ using brushes and palette knives. As I honed in more precisely on the effects I wanted to create, I become more thoughtful about the decisions I was making until I reached the total effect I was looking for.
I like this painting. It’s very “up” emotionally and makes me feel happy. It returns to me the elated feeling I had getting back to painting after all those weeks away."
